I am a hopeless romantic and love hearing how other brides were proposed to, so I thought there might be some interest in my proposal story... It was the most special weekend of my life thanks to my wonderful fiance!! My long-time boyfriend Michael and I were living in separate cities in Texas. I am in Antonio for law school, and he is back home in Houston working and taking classes. We did the long-distance thing pretty well the first year -- thank GOD for AOL Instant Messenger! Last Winter, he asked me if I wanted to go to New Orleans for a romantic weekend getaway to celebrate my birthday in July. Since I attended Summer School, we planned our trip for early August. He booked a room at the Ritz-Carlton and I made reservations at some our favorite restaurants in the city -- we have vacationed there several other times and always have so much fun! Little did I know that he had a few tricks up his sleeve! We have known we wanted to get married for a long time, but career and school has always taken a priority over a wedding somehow! We decided last year to get married after I graduate and take the Bar Exam in 2003. Anyway... after Summer School was over, I went home to Houston and we headed out of town. Michael wanted to stop at the church in Jackson Square first thing, which I thought was odd since we had seen it before on previous trips. He said he wanted to light a candle for his late grandmother, because her birthday was coming up -- but I didn't know was that he was also planning to propose in the front pew of the church, in front of the altar -- Unfortunately, the sanctuary was closed for a wedding rehearsal, so they told us to come back the next day! He was so disappointed, but I told him the church was hundreds of years old and would probably be standing the next day. He said I just didn't understand WHY this was so important to him -- and we headed for our hotel. The Ritz-Carlton is new and incredibly gorgeous. We got settled in our room -- and all I wanted to do was take a shower and go get some dinner after our long drive from Houston. Michael had other plans, though! He insisted we go check out the beautiful courtyard by the lobby before the sun went down. I was feeling hot and cranky, but reluctantly agreed, so we headed down. We walked around and admired the plants and flowers, the fountain, and a beautiful wrought-iron gazebo. Michael said we should sit under the gazebo and decide where to have dinner that night. Once we sat down, he said that he had a belated birthday gift for me....then he pulled out a blue Tiffany bag from this goofy fanny pack he had been wearing all day. He never wears a fanny pack and I kidded him about it all day...but it was the only way he could keep the ring hidden from me, yet still safe! I was surprised by the timing of this proposal...he said, "It's NOT what you think..." I thought maybe he had bought me a sterling silver pen I had admired at Tiffany's, but when I saw the little blue box I KNEW it was my engagement ring!! I opened it very quickly and was stunned by the gorgeous round solitaire engagement ring he had picked out for me! I was so surprised that all I could do was take off a small diamond ring he had given me years ago and put on my new engagement ring. By the time it was on my finger, he was on his knees in front of me reading a poem/speech he had written -- asking me to be his wife. I was hugging him and shaking my head in amazement that he had managed to surprise me so totally. From out of nowhere, a hotel manager came into the courtyard with congratulations and complimentary glasses of champagne for us. As we were toasting, kissing, and drinking champagne, I realized that I had never actually told Michael yes!! So...I said, "I forgot to tell you yes -- Yes, I will be your wife!" The hotel was great...they let us keep the champagne flutes as a souvenier of our engagement, and they took pictures later that night when we got dressed up for dinner. Then we went back to our room and called our family and friends to spread the happy news -- everyone was thrilled for us. It was the most romantic, special weekend of my life! We had a celebration brunch the next morning at Commander's Palace and dinners at Emeril's (owned by celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse) and NOLA. We went back to the church on Sunday and had the priest bless both our engagement and my engagement ring -- that was a very special memory as well. The weather was a bit rainy, but we managed to spend some time walking in the French Quarter! I could not have asked for a more special engagement -- and the fact that Michael planned the whole thing as a special weekend for me made it even better! We talked about it, and have decided to stick with our original plan and wait to have the wedding until after I graduate and take the Bar Exam in July 2003. We need that much time to save money for a nice wedding anyway. For now, we are content to be an officially engaged couple and plan our perfect wedding together. Thanks for letting me share our story with you.

When I proposed, it was at a fancy restaurant. I had a special dessert made with the diamond ring pushed into it, so you could see the diamond on the top of the chocolate flower design. After dinner it was brought out to Renee and she didn't see it at first. She put the fork into the top, popped the 1 carat diamond ring into her mouth and made the funniest expression. After she realized what it was, she was in tears of joy and we have been happily together ever since. Chad R.

When I was younger I used to sit there and imagine what it must be like when a guy asks you to marry him. I used to imagine that it would take place in a great romantic setting after an extremely romantic day and then the guy would be so nervous about asking and that I would cry and then everything would be perfect. Of course this was just a dream and that in reality you have to basically try and get as close to it as you can. As you have probably guessed seen as I am writing this review that I am now engaged to my wonderful boyfriend Dave and I am extremely happy and I think that this category will be so interesting to find out how some people do decide to propose. So now on with my story. Last Wednesday which was actually the devils day me and my boyfriend were in Corfu. On that day we woke up to a tropical thunder storm but then after about fifteen minutes the sun came out and the land dried up quickly so my boyfriend suggested we go and spend some time on the beach. I think I better clarify at this point that I had no idea that he was planning to propose and had the whole day worked out. At the beach we had a great meal in a posh restaurant and then did some sunbathing and some swimming in the sea before Dave asked if we could leave to get back to the resort we were staying in. Of course I said yes and when we were there he said that he would really love it if we could go and watch the sunset on a cliff somewhere. Of course this idea was lovely so off I went and got dressed into a pretty dress. We got to a cliff as the place in Corfu we were staying at was very pretty and the cliffs looked amazing and you were allowed to go and sit on them. My Dave however decided he was going to take me to a cliff that said danger; do not approach on a big sign right by it. I just did not want to go up there but he said if you don’t like it then we can come back down. I immediately got up there and said I did not like it but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and sat down on the mat he had bought with him. He then opened a bottle of wine that we bought a couple of years ago and saved for a special occasion. I know it is me being naïve but I still had not guessed what was about to happen. So there we were on this cliff with me every two seconds saying how scared I was and then you could physically see ants running over you and mosquitoes landing on you so we had to move. We then moved to another part of the cliff where we actually were allowed to sit as there were chairs and tables there. We watched the entire sunset from here and the scenery was just amazing. Dave was asking how long we had been going out with each other and things like that to get the mood romantic when we spotted some people walking up the cliff. He was gutted obviously and I just carried on enjoying the views. It was funny as they came and stood right by where we were sitting and stayed for a few minutes but then luckily move on. The next thing to ruin Dave’s proposal was that there were these frogs right by us and they began to make the most annoying loud noise. Seriously I think there must have been about ten of them around as I could not hear what Dave was saying. This resulted in Dave just giving me a hug and a kiss and then telling me he loved me. He got down on one knee and me still being naïve was just thinking well why don’t you just bring your chair closer to me instead of kneeling. He then pulled out this lovely looking box and proposed and then of course I said yes straight away. We then went to a nice restaurant and had something to eat while I sat there staring at my ring the whole of the time. So there you have it, that is the story of how I got engaged to Dave and he loves telling the story as now I have got a reputation as the hardest girl to propose to and also the most unromantic girl which I feel is a bit unfair. I think that Dave was so romantic and the whole day was fantastic and although it took him a bit longer to ask me it was worth it in the end. Now what I want to hear is your stories as I think the whole idea of proposing is such an old romantic one and these kind of stories are just wonderful. Plus we will give ideas to all those who haven’t yet proposed but are planning it. Thanks for reading.

On Friday night, Justin told me to sleep in and call him when I woke up the next morning (which I definitely did). On Saturday, he called me and told me to be ready later that afternoon and he would pick me up. He wouldn’t tell me where we were going, but when I asked him what to wear he told me to “wear whatever I wanted…maybe a summer dress or something.” He showed up at my house wearing slacks and a dress shirt…and looking great. I wore a little white strapless summer dress still thinking we were just going out to eat. He asked if I was hungry and I said that I was a little so we had a light lunch in Bricktown in Oklahoma City and then went to see a movie (Pirates of the Caribbean 2, which I had been dying to see and absolutely loved). Afterwards, he started driving toward Edmond, OK and he asked me if I was hungry yet or if I wanted to go shopping before dinner. The whole time I just thought we were just going out, just like any other weekend. Justin really is so amazing that, taking me out to eat, shopping, a movie, and more isn’t out of the ordinary. I told him we could just go to eat and when we started getting close to my favorite restaurant, he said “okay, so I’m not exactly sure what street it is on.” I said, smiling because I thought I had figured out where we were going, “if you are going to Bahama Breeze, then turn on Britton Road.” He said “is that where you want to go?” And I replied yes, feeling very proud that I actually had an answer to his question. Usually, we can never decide on where to eat or what to do, not because we can’t agree, but because neither one of us wants to make a decision. Only later that night after he had proposed did I figure out that he had actually planned to take me to the restaurant next to Bahama Breeze called Red Rock, which is more expensive, but Bahama Breeze is more my style. At Bahama Breeze we had drinks out on the back patio and watched the sailboats on the water of Lake Hefner. There was a live band playing in the back room that opened up to the patio where we could hear the music playing, but not too loud. At dinner we both sat and talked and had a wonderful time. After dinner we walked on a pathway to a small lighthouse and then back to the car. I thought we were heading home and was too busy talking to Justin that it took me a while to realize that we weren’t heading in the right direction. I kept asking him where we where going, but of course he wouldn’t tell me. When I figured out that we were headed to Highway 9, I could not even imagine where we could possibly be going. There really isn’t anything that direction (that I knew of) to do of an evening. I never did figure it out until we actually got there. Even then, when he turned in the entrance to Lake Thunderbird and I saw a sign for the stables for horseback riding I was even more confused. It was getting close to being dark and I knew we couldn’t go horseback riding then. We parked and got out of the car and walked down on the beach. When we found a place on the beach where no one else was around, Justin decided he would run up and get a blanket for us to sit on (and the ring). We just sat on the beach and watched the sunset. He stood up and pulled me onto to my feet and told me that next summer when he moved, he wanted me to go with him. I told him I wanted that too and then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I started crying and hugged him about knocking him over. I was so excited and so happy that it’s a miracle I remember what happed at all. It took to a minute to realize that he was holding a ring, which is absolutely gorgeous. We walked closer back to the car where he got out strawberries and champagne and we sat on the beach enjoying the night and looking at each other rather than the stars. Everything was absolutely perfect.
